For my Conceptual Film Design class, I was tasked with remaking a piece of art of my choosing. After much deliberation, I decided to go with one of Jean-Michel Basquiat's works: Untitled (Skull). When I first saw some of Basquiat's work in 2023, shortly after I began studying Media: Conception & Production, I was instantly amazed. The way he turned what at first glance might appear to be nothing more than scribbles into evocative and thought-provoking art fascinated me and completely shifted my view of what "art" was, is, and can be. For this piece, I had a good friend of mine (Greta Lynn Legler) take a portrait of me with the same profile as the skull in Untitled. After eventually managing to get a suitable picture and performing basic image editing and removing the background, I used the Art History Brush to give my face an oil painting-like texture. Afterward, I painted the background with a different color scheme than the original and added scribbles.
